At the Whole Pet Grooming Academy, every student brings a unique story of perseverance and passion. This month, we’re proud to introduce Shalise, a current student in the Professional Canine Stylist program, who is reigniting her love for animals after a brief detour into the corporate world.
Rediscovering the Joy of Animal Care
Shalise’s journey in the animal care industry began in 2017 when she pursued a Veterinary Assisting Certificate from MCC. Starting as a kennel attendant at a busy boarding and daycare facility, Shalise quickly earned a promotion to Pet Care Operations Manager thanks to her hard work and eagerness to learn.
“I never turned down an opportunity to grow,” Shalise shares. “It was a challenging role, but the reward of caring for animals every day made it all worth it.”
Adapting Through Life’s Challenges
When the opportunity arose to become a Facility Manager at a new facility, Shalise eagerly embraced the challenge. However, the Covid pandemic brought unforeseen changes, and Shalise found herself transitioning to a career in banking.
“I enjoy helping people navigate tough times, but nothing compares to the labor of love that comes with working with animals,” she reflects.
A Fresh Start with WPGA
Now, Shalise is back in the industry she loves, pursuing her Professional Canine Stylist credential. For her, the program has been more than just a refresher—it’s been a reminder of her passion and purpose.
“Being part of this program is one of my biggest accomplishments. After being out of the industry for a few years, it’s given me the confidence to handle animals again and apply what I’m learning to real-life situations,” Shalise says.
Shalise’s house call services for family and friends, including nail trims and baths, are just the beginning of her new chapter. She’s taking her education one step at a time and looking forward to the future.
