Kat’s Journey to Success
Kat’s journey has been filled with remarkable achievements. She earned the Keystone Degree at the State Convention of the FFA in 2019 and was recognized as the Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Senior Off-Farm Entrepreneur in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Alongside her career, Kat has been deeply involved in her community, volunteering at her local humane shelter since middle school. Her work with different breeds and her dedication to basic training have helped many dogs find their forever homes.
A Growing Passion for Grooming
After moving to Pennsylvania, Kat had the opportunity to work with a groomer who had extensive experience in grooming and showing dogs. There, she enhanced her skills even more by specializing in techniques—one of which, hand stripping, remains a key part of her grooming style today. She especially loves working with wire-haired breeds and hopes to deepen her knowledge of this grooming form.
Returning to New Hampshire, Kat found her current role at Pet Rendezvous, where she’s been able to build her confidence and continue her education. She has expanded her expertise in various coat types, delved into the intricacies of poodle grooming, and even taken specialized courses on hand stripping. Her continuous learning journey also led her to creative grooming, starting with dyeing her dog, Benji’s, coat and applying these skills to client requests. A Zoom class on creative grooming taught by Alaina LeBlanc fueled her passion further, and she looks forward to continuing her growth in this area.
Facing New Challenges and Growth
Kat’s career took an exciting turn when Pet Rendezvous relocated. The move, while challenging, highlighted the sense of family within the business. With everyone’s help and the patience of their loyal clients, the transition was a success. This experience taught Kat about the complexities and fulfillment of managing a business and reinforced her belief in the strength of their team.
A Personal Reflection
Reflecting on her journey, Kat recalls a quote by James Herriot: “Looking back, I realize it was one of the bravest things I have ever done.”
She shares, "I was never a confident child growing up, and it wasn’t until I quit college and started working at a pet store that I found my passion for grooming. Watching a groomer at the back of the store inspired me to join The Whole Pet Grooming Academy, where I began to find my confidence and purpose. Completing my diplomas made me realize that pursuing this career was one of the bravest things I’ve ever done, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Little me would be proud, and I continue to strive to make her proud every day."
Kat’s story and journey has been truly inspiring to watch. From her early days of self-doubt to becoming a confident and talented stylist, she has shown incredible resilience and a deep passion for grooming. Her drive to continually learn and grow in her craft is a testament to her dedication. We are beyond proud to have been part of her story, and I have no doubt that Kat will continue to make waves in the grooming industry. She is an example to us that courage and hard work can transform our lives. ~ Dara
